Scholarship Winners for 2018
Carleeta Ridley-Matthews works full time at Truman Medical Center as a Respiratory Therapist. She is attending the University of Missouri to obtain a Bachelors in Health Science. She is presently a Senior. She wrote in her essay “Obtaining my degree after being out of high school for almost 10 years brought me great satisfaction but it was indeed a challenge.”
Tyana Sullivan, scholarship winner number four, works at Byrd Dance and Gymnastics as a Gym Instructor. She attends Kansas City Kansas Community College. Her long term goal is to become a Lawyer. She wrote in her essay, ” I finally decided to come back to school after I had my son in 2016 because I wanted a better education for a better career so I can give him a better life.”
Stephanie Leonard who works full time at Providence Medical Center as a Medical Assistant and is attending Kansas City Kansas Community College. Her goal is to become an RN. One of her references wrote “Stephanie is proof that at any age, any stage in life, you can go back to school and achieve your goals.”
Kamari Forell was the second award winner. She works par time at Topp’d Pizza as a Cook and also attends St. Luke’s College of Health Science to become a Nurse. She explained in her essay, that she comes from a long line of Nurses, her great grandmother, all 4 of her aunts, her step mother and her mother. She plans to use her degree in International Studies.
Rebecca Alcalca received the first of five scholarships presented today by the Women’s Chamber from Irene Caudillo, Executive Director of El Centro. Rebeca graduated with her Associates of Arts degree in May of 2018. She decided to stay at Donnelly and receive her Bachelors in Organizational Leadership. Rebeca maintains a 3.5 GPA and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. One instructor wrote, “Rebeca is a first generation Hispanic college students who is very conscientious about her assignments.”
